National Jump for Jellybeans Day is July 31, 2023!

Jumpin' Jellybeans! Today's the day to jump in appreciation for one of America's favorite candies! In the United States, jelly beans have been around for more than a century and have established themselves as one of the most popular candies in the nation. Did you know that it takes anywhere from 7 to 21 days to make a jellybean? Turkish delight, a soft variation of this hard candy, served as an inspiration for the creation of jelly beans. Companies that manufacture them make a wide variety of jelly beans in various colors. To give consumers a variety of tastes, a wide range of flavors are also added to the candy.

The most popular flavors in the world, according to Jelly Belly:

  • Very cherry for North and South America,

  • Lemon-lime for Asia,

  • Bubble gum for Australia,

  • Tutti-fruitti for Europe,

  • Berry blue for the Middle East.

There are different generational preferences in America. Cherry may be the most favored flavor among both adults and children, but their preferences go beyond that. Kids prefer berry blue, green apple, raspberry, sour apple, and watermelon; adults prefer buttered popcorn, coconut, juicy pear, licorice, and strawberry daiquiri.

Here are some family-friendly activities that you can use to celebrate National Jump for Jellybeans Day.

  • Make mosaics or sculptures out of jellybeans

  • Buy a mixed bag of Jelly Bellys and see who can guess the most correct flavors.

  • Decorate cupcakes or cookies with jellybeans.

  • Fill a clear jar with jellybeans and see who can come closest to guessing the amount inside.

  • Put some jellybeans into 4 plastic Easter eggs and tape them shut. You now have 2 pairs of maracas!

  • See who can make the coolest structure using only jellybeans and toothpicks.

Jellybean Games

  • Instead of the egg in the spoon relay, play with a jellybean in the spoon.

  • Have teams race down to a table where each participant must transfer one jellybean out of a bowl into another bowl using only chopsticks before running back to tag the next team member.

  • Throw a jellybean to a partner using only a paper cup. The partner must catch it in their paper cup. Those that succeed take a step back and repeat until only one team remains.

  • Place a piece of masking tape down the center of the table. Put lots of jellybeans in the center. One team stands at each end of the table. Give everyone a straw. The object is to keep all of the jellybeans on the opposite team's side of the table.

  • Obtain large, clean bottle caps from any couple-inch-high household item, including laundry detergent or aerosol cans. Attach them with glue to a thick piece of plywood or cardboard. Give each player a handful of jellybeans to start the game. The player throws the jellybeans into the caps while standing a specific distance away from them. The winner is the player with the most beans in their cups, or you can just play for fun!
